The Department of Lands (Lands) is the definitive source of a wide range of land and property information in NSW. Our products and services include registered land titles, land valuations, mapping and spatial information, survey control data, soil plans and land assessments.
Lands is a world leader in land and spatial information management. By using the very latest technology we provide land information services to individuals, businesses, government agencies and community organisations throughout the State, Australia and internationally.
We play an important role identifying, allocating and managing public lands across NSW.
The types of public land we manage include parks, reserves, beaches, vacant land, forests, sporting grounds, community facilities and much more.
This means Lands provides public land for recreation and conservation and ensures management of public land is in the best interest of the NSW and local communities.
Lands has a number of divisions, including:
- Land and Property Information (LPI) - an internationally recognised service for all land administration needs, including land title registration, digital and hardcopy mapping products, property information, valuation, surveying and aerial photography.
- Crown Lands - responsible for sustainable management of state-owned lands for the benefit of the people of NSW. Crown lands is responsible for about 12.7 million hectares, or half the total area of NSW. This includes parks, reservations, camping and caravanning areas, walking tracks and sporting and recreational facilities.
- Soil Conservation Service - the leading authority in planning, design and construction of soil conservation earthworks, rehabilitation and revegetation, and training in conservation earthmoving, urban erosion and sediment control.
- Lands also maintains The Office of Rural Affairs, The Geographical Names Board, Board of Surveying and Spatial Information (BOSSI) and more.
